Key Stage 3 Geography at Perryfields supports a unique approach to providing the strong foundations and skills practise that our students need to fully prepare them to take on the AQA GSCE specification. The content is both topical and relevant and aims to enthuse students whilst building knowledge and understanding that is essential for progression to GCSE. At the start of year 8, the focus for delivery is ‘The Geography of the United Kingdom’, before we switch our focus to ‘The Geography of the Wider World’.
Topic | More information | Assessments |
‘Work, rest and play in the UK’ | In the first topic, students will look closely at the human geography of the UK where they will learn about how employment, communication, transport, leisure and recreation are structured within the UK now and how they have changed over time. Students will also consider the controversial development issue of HS2 and will take part in decision making activities on some current affairs, including whether or not Heathrow Airport should get an additional runway.

‘The Living World’ | The final unit introduces students to the living world, a compulsory topic at GCSE. In subsequent lessons, students will be learning about: the concept of ‘from field to plate’ and food miles; ecosystems, food chains and food webs; the Mediterranean biome; coral reefs; and Russian biomes.
