Dance at Perryfields strive to build a creative, collaborative environment where students can build on their dance knowledge. We provide opportunities to explore a wide variety of performance platforms across all years; such as dance shows, theatre trips and working with professional practitioners. Our main aim is to achieve the highest possible standards for all students and providing an enjoyable, interesting and challenging learning experiences in our recently built, state of the art dance studio. We are a strong team, each member of the Department making their own contributions and demonstrating individual strengths.
KS3 – Dance is delivered through PE during KS3 over a 6-week cycle. Both boys and girls groups will experience dance within their PE curriculum in KS3. They will be assessed on their dance skills at the end of their 6 week period.
KS4 – During KS4 students can opt to complete an additional BTEC in dance alongside their other GCSE options. As part of the assessment for this course, students will be required to complete both theoretical and practical coursework and assessments exploring the performing arts alongside developing their dance and performance skills in a number of performance opportunities.
Skills that students can expect to develop over the course of their dance experience:
We have an extensive extracurricular timetable within the dance department. We over after school clubs which are open to all years as well as open rehearsals and lunchtime clubs in our new dance studio. We create two dance shows per year – One held at the Stourbridge Town Hall and a student showcase, which is held here at Perryfields. We also offer a wide variety of performance trips to the theatre as well as performance opportunities in competitions and festivals.
