Perryfields student World ‘Cheer’ success

Perryfield’s Emily Casey has won two bronze medals at the World Cheerleading Championships in the USA.

Having only taken up the sport two years ago, Emily was selected for the Team England Junior All Girls group to go to Florida, finishing an incredible third.

The former gymnast also picked up bronze with her club team, Coventry Dynamite, in the ‘Coed’ division of the International Open.

Class teacher Mr Pinfield has been keeping the Year 11s friends updated on her progress and says everyone is delighted for her:

“It’s fantastic news and a fantastic achievement for such a lovely dedicated pupil. I know lots of her teachers have been checking in and helping her so she didn’t fall behind on schoolwork whilst preparing for the Championships. We are incredibly proud of her.”

Emily’s mum Louise was with her in Orlando and says winning two medals is a dream come true:

“We are so proud of Emily she works so hard. This has been over a decade of training from a background in gymnastics and moving to cheerleading just 2 years ago.  She never stops striving to better herself making the Junior England Squad last year. Double Bronze Medal for England and her club Coventry is what dreams are made of on the Worlds stage under immense pressure.
